PASSION PROJECTS: FOODIE HAVEN During the week before spring break, our building embarked on a million learning adventures through our Passion Projects! This week, we'll continue to share many of those moments with you! Mrs. Shannon and Mrs. Tucker organized and facilitated a Passion Project focused on their love of their favorite recipes. Students learned about food preparation, cooking and serving, and even tastings. Students even created cookbooks! SAVE THE DATE: THE LAST LUAU Don't forget that a very tropical Friday night is on the horizon! The Last Luau is one of our favorite traditions of the year and offers an amazing opportunity for us to celebrate our eighth-grade students. What's the best part?! The event is entirely FREE. Free admission. Free Kona Ice. Free food and drinks. Free games and prizes. All eighth-grade students in attendance will even be entered for the chance to win a new ChromeBook!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Mrs. Shannon shares that a student recently dropped all of her belongings. Eli immediately jumped up to help the other student collect all of her items. That's the Wildcat Way! We are proud of you, Eli!

WILD about CATS Students who participated in Mrs. Long's Passion Project spent the week creating cardboard items. They made cat toys and scratching pads to donate to Sierra's Haven, a local animal shelter. Yesterday, students visited the animal shelter and spent time with the animals. The cats gave the toys a PUURRRRRRfect score, and the puppies enjoyed some playtime! There's no denying it - our Wildcats are Wild about Cats!

JUST FABELous Students in Mrs. Long’s reading class have been learning about Aesop’s Fables. During a recent fun project, students read scripts of fables and created their own puppet characters to perform in front of the class. Tortoise and the hare, anyone?!

PLANT A TREE, CHANGE THE WORLD Today, students in Mr. Haywood’s classes had opportunities to participate in the wrapping of trees in preparation for this week’s annual tree seedling giveaway. Students learned about nutrients and proper preparation for the young trees. It looks like they also had quite a bit of fun in the midst of beautiful weather! Thank you for this opportunity, Carrie Davis! We appreciate you!

PASSION PROJECTS: DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CAMPAIGN DESIGN During the week before spring break, our building embarked on a million learning adventures through our Passion Projects! This week, we'll continue to share many of those moments with you! Mr. Horsley organized and facilitated a Passion Project focused on his love of Dungeons and Dragons. Students learned about the game, played through a campaign, and even designed their own campaigns. By the close of the week, they traveled to Smith Dungeon in Grayson to receive feedback on their designs. Wow! That sounds like a pretty amazing week! https://www.facebook.com/reel/316097554590937

FAST FOOD: A WURTLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA PERFORMANCE We are so excited to share that our next drama performance, "Fast Food," will be performed on May 15 at 1:00 p.m. We would like to invite all parents, guardians, and family members to attend. "Fast Food" is a humorous play set at MacBurger's. With crazy customers, a wacky staff, and a man in a chicken suit, this play is certain to trigger the belly laughs! The Wurtland WildCast can't wait to welcome you to MacBurger's! They'll go the extra mile to make you smile! WE. ARE. EXCITED.

BUS PASS REMINDER This is just a reminder of our policy regarding bus passes at Wurtland Middle School. Notes, phone calls, e-mails, or requests for students to ride buses other than those to which they are assigned must be received no later than 1:00 p.m. Of course, should it be an emergency, please reach out us, and we will do our best to accommodate requests on an individualized basis. We appreciate your attention to our request for timely requests for changes to bus transportation for your son and/or daughter.

END-OF-YEAR TESTING INFORMATION FOR VIRTUAL STUDENTS If your son/daughter is currently enrolled as a virtual learner, take note of all of the necessary report times for end-of-year testing. ALL virtual learners will be testing within the building unless notified otherwise.

A PIECE OF (PAN)CAKE The last session of the Cooking from Home series in Mrs. Shannon's Tourism and Hospitality class fell to Kaiden Robinson. He nailed the challenge, making pancakes from scratch! This was a great way to leave us with a sweet taste in our mouths! Yum!

JUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADING TRYOUT INFORMATION

Greenup Schools will dismiss at noon today 4/11/24 for impending storms predicted to have 50MPH winds and cause flooding. Storms from last week have also created this need, as many roads were just repaired but could wash out easily. All school events this evening are canceled. Please stay safe Musketeers!

*UPDATED INFORMATION SPRING INTO READING: SPRING BOOKFAIR It's time to spring into reading at Wurtland Middle School with our spring bookfair! Ms. Johnson will host the bookfair in the library through Wednesday, April 17. Be sure to stop in to guess the number of gumballs in the jar for free books and a prize bag! Family night will be held on April 16, 2024 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please note attached price information.

PASSION PROJECTS: CHICKENPALOOZA During the week before spring break, our building embarked on a million learning adventures through our Passion Projects! This week, we'll be sharing many of those moments with you! Ms. Bowling organized and facilitated a Passion Project focused on establishing our first clutch of chicks at Wurtland Middle School. She had help and support from Ms. Dawndy Wagner and Mrs. Rebecca Spencer.
