Mrs. Brumfield shares that Ms. Johnson does a fantastic job of decorating and creating a welcoming library! From her Roll-A-Genre activity to her "What's the librarian reading?" board, she makes certain that the library is a lively and engaging place!


WRITER OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Brumfield shares that Jaxon recently submitted a perfect example of a short response question for the article of the week in English class. He even remembered to add textual evidence to support his response!

Last weekend, we celebrated each of our ERAS! From Taylor Swift's Rep Era to our own Wildcat Era, we danced the night away and had SO MUCH FUN! Enjoy these smiles!





SEVENTH-GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
Students in Mr. Yancey's class recently used a hybrid interactive activity, shifting between paper and digital tasks, in class to review concepts in geography. Mr. Yancey shares that classification of assignments is a great way to help reinforce concepts for students!

On Friday, February 9, wear gear or colors to school in support of the team that YOU think will win the Super Bowl! Who will capture the big trophy? It's time for you to decide!


INTRAMURALS
Cornhole and ping pong with Mrs. Dornon are growing in popularity during intramurals on Fridays.




NUMBERS ON THE LINE
Students in Mrs. Vanover's sixth-grade math class recently displayed their knowledge of the number system in class. They used their knowledge of positives, negatives, and their relationships with zero, as well as the understanding of opposites, to create a large number line. That's hands-on learning!



The new puzzle table in the library is getting lots of use! Look at that teamwork!





DOUGHNUT TRY THIS WITHOUT PROPER PUNCTUATION
Students in the classes of Ms. Alex Young have been working hard on their argumentative writings. In their latest activity, students started designing doughnuts, while also enjoying glazed treats, and describing them in as much detail as possible. With the progression of the activity, students will be defending their doughnut flavors and designs, attempting to prove which is the best! Wow! What a fun and innovative activity for students!

CATS' CREATIONS
Members of our Cats' Creations class have been working hard to design and create new products! We're always on the move at Wurtland Middle School!





HOORAY FOR CENTERS!
This week, students in the classes of Ms. Katie Williams are focused on text features. Rotational centers are allowing our Wildcats to be fully engaged and have some fun:
interactive bulletin boards, SmartBoard games, doodle notes, a text feature scavenger hunt, headbands, and task cards. Learning is an adventure at WMS!










READER OF THE WEEK
Mr. Scott Bowling shares that William NEVER stops reading! Recently, he practically ran to the library to get the next book in the collection he is currently reading. We are proud of you, William!

Ms. Melissa Bowling shares that Mr. Scott Bowling is a champion for kids at Wurtland Middle School! Currently, he is leading his students in another school-based project, and everyone is doing a great job! Thank you for being a leader, Mr. Bowling!


INDUSTRIAL ARTS
Eighth-grade shop managers recently completed their individual projects. Joseph Gibson chose to make himself a new desk, and Gideon Stevens and Thomas Gibson both chose to make target shooting tables. These gentlemen are huge parts of our industrial arts program success! Keep building, Wildcats!



SCIENCE PROJECT-BASED LEARNING (PBL)
Students in Mrs. Dornon's class participated in a gallery walk today in connection to their current PBL.


STUDENT TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (STLP) HEADS TO STATE
At Wurtland Middle School, we have two STLP projects that have qualified as semi-finalists and are moving on to the state STLP competition. Hannah Newsom qualified with her infographic, and Alex Brown qualified in three-dimensional design! WOW! We are excited and proud of our Wildcats!
