Today, Superintendent Hall proudly represented our school district at a meaningful event, recognizing an important piece of local and Appalachian history.
The Appalachian Freedom Initiative is a nine-county, three-state initiative to locate and document Underground Railroad sites in the tri-state region of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
During the ceremony, Mr. Hall accepted a certificate and land marker officially recognizing the former Lynn Elementary School site as part of the Appalachian Freedom Heritage Project. This site has been identified as the Greenup Revolt Escape Site—an important location connected to the stories of resistance and the pursuit of freedom in our region.
We are honored to collaborate with local organizations to help preserve and share this history with our students, staff, and others. Recognizing sites like this ensures that these powerful stories are not forgotten and continue to educate future generations.
We invite our community to learn more about this important project and its impact across Appalachia:
