McKell Middle will start selling American flags for $3 October 7 until November 5 2024. Each flag will be in honor or memory of a veteran or service member. We will be creating our own Field of Flags the week of Veterans Day along US 23. Each flag purchased may be then picked up starting November 18th. Names of each donor will also be displayed on the school facebook page. All proceeds will be donated to the Greenup County War Memorial.
You may place an order by calling (606-932-3221) or stopping by McKell Middle Schools front office.

Dear Families,
We are excited to announce that McKell Middle School has launched a partnership with The Social Institute (TSI), a leader in curriculum designed to equip students to navigate the complex intersection of well-being, social media, and technology.
At a time when students spend many hours a day on digital devices, and cyberbullying and reputation-damaging posts run rampant, TSI equips students to make positive, healthy, and high-character choices that fuel their health, happiness, and future success. Our school will be adopting TSI’s comprehensive program, called #WinAtSocial, which promotes character, empathy, teamwork, critical thinking, and other important life skills.
Whether or not your child uses social media or a device of their own, we hope that you will consider how these free resources outlined below could be useful to your family.
To be clear, the information offered through this partnership does not instruct anyone how to parent. Instead, these supplementary resources provide insight into social media, technology, and student experiences, offering family discussion prompts and informative resources that you can incorporate into family conversations as much or as little as you like.
How Your Family Can Participate:
Continue the conversation at home: As students experience #WinAtSocial each month, Family Huddle questions may be emailed to you by the school as a supplement to a lesson. These are completely optional to run as a family!
Register your free account for The Social Toolkit. Many families refer to this as the CliffsNotes of social media and technology! Go to the Toolkit, click Activate Account, and enter our school code: 2ad3F33B5D246A
We are excited to be able to offer this important and timely education to our community. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Joanna Zaph

This weeks Bulldog Beacon is hot off the press!

Mrs. Smiths health class used eggshells to represent the enamel of our teeth. They left an egg in five different liquids for 24-hours to represent the sugar/liquid sitting on your teeth without brushing. They used orange juice, strawberry milk, and various pop/soda. They took the eggs out after 24 hours and brushed them with water first and then toothpaste to see the difference.
