McKell Middle

The 8th grade science project for Earth Day (4/22) was a culmination of their Pi Day (3/14) project. For Pi Day students were presented the request of a circular flowerbed with a 12’ diameter. They had to calculate the circumference and then divide it into 6 slices…one slice for each class. They did the math. 🤓 Then they had to research full sun annual flowers with a height no more than 18”. Each class presented their choices. They did a fine job. 👩‍🌾 On Wednesday to celebrate Earth Day several students plotted the bed, marked the measurements, cleared the sod, and broke up the ground. Today each class planted their choices and finished it off with mulch. Mrs. Fraley would like to commend her students that worked so hard on this project to improve our school’s grounds.

The 8th grade students completed their Defense of Learning. Each student creates a google site that represents them and what they have learned each year in middle school. Then in 8th grade they present it to a panel of judges to show what they have learned and to make sure they covered all four parts of the Core 4!

Site‑Based Decision Making (SBDM) Parent Nominations
McKell Middle is currently accepting parent nominations for our Site‑Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council. Parent nominations are due by Monday, April 27, and parent elections will take place April 28- May 1. The Site‑Based Council is made up of teachers, parents, and the principal and meets once a month after school. The council is responsible for setting school policy and making decisions outlined in state statute, all with the goal of providing an environment that supports and enhances student achievement. We strongly encourage parents to consider serving in this important leadership role. Nominations should be made by phone or in person at McKell Middle School.
