Halloween Dress Up Day

6th grade scientists in Mrs. Cattell’s class were able to explore creating synthetic materials from natural materials. They used sodium alginate (seaweed) and calcium chloride (limestone), combined them to create a polymer “worm.” Special thanks to Mrs. Webster for helping.

Eighth grade science students are currently studying climate change and the ways scientists find data to show how conditions have changed over time. One way is by studying tree rings from trees that are several years old. The tree cross section the students studied is from a branch of a tree that is over 120 years old. Students counted the rings and found that the branch was between 70-80 years old. They also identified wide spaces between rings which show wet, rainy seasons and thin rings which show dry seasons. They learned that many Sequoia trees are over 3000 years old and provide scientists with centuries of data.

This weeks Friday Bulldog Wrap Up!

In Mrs. Fraley’s CTE class students not only learned human anatomy but they also had a side gig raising Monarch Butterflies. They were even lucky enough to find a Monarch egg so they were able to watch it through every stage of development. Students tagged and released each butterfly and will submit their info to Monarch Watch. If anyone finds the tagged butterfly they can report it to us so we can see how far our butterflies traveled. Hopefully it makes it all the way to Mexico!
