Mrs. Mary Logsdon shares that Charlee is a sweet young lady and a great artist! She loves to gift all of her teachers with the custom artwork she creates.
We are proud of this Wildcat, and we can't wait to watch her grow!

Ms. Melissa Travis shares that she calls Ruthie the "Keeper of the Guinea Pigs". She cares for them every day and treats them like her own pets. She started doing this without being asked and even brings them an orange every day. She's precious! The guinea pigs, and Ms. Travis will miss her next school year!
We are so proud of this Wildcat, and we can't wait to watch her grow!

INDUSTRIAL ARTS
Mr. Bowling and his Industrial Arts students have been hard at work building several picnic tables for the new Farmer's Market sponsored by the extension office. Today, the purchases were finalized, and the products were loaded. That's some craftsmanship!
LOVIN’ THE LUAU
At Wurtland Middle School, our eighth-grade luau tradition continued this year! With the weather being a little wetter than we would’ve preferred, we moved this year’s event into the gymnasium. From our limbo tradition to Kona Ice, amazing door prizes, and musical hula hoops, we had all the fun! We owe a special note of thanks to the amazing members of our faculty and staff who made the dance special for our students! It was a tropical delight!

Last week, some of our sixth-grade Wildcats were recognized at Wurtland Elementary School for proficient and/or distinguished scores on last year's state tests! Help us to congratulate these amazing students!

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STORYTELLING SERIES
Students are continuing to participate in the National Geographic Explorer Series. NatGeo featured Louisville on the most recent episode. Our Wildcats received a shout-out for being the only class representing the Commonwealth!
EARTH DAY OUR WAY To recognize Earth Day on April 22, students in Mrs. Brumfields classes watched a video clip and discussed it as a class. Then, students chose an additional source of information (articles with video clips) to complete tasks to demonstrate their understanding. Some students chose to respond in writing, while others chose more artistic options, creating flyers with information about Earth Day. Both tasks required students to use standard English conventions while demonstrating understandings of key concepts and ideas. GREAT WORK, WILDCATS!

COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Ms. Melissa Bowling shares that Mrs. Carla is a hard worker who always has a smile on her face! She goes above and beyond for everyone each and every day! Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Carla!
WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Tucker shares that when students were recently dismissed from the gym, there was heavy traffic and a student dropped some folders. Other students passed without helping, but Mason stopped and helped this student gather his belongings. Great job, Mason!
TELLING NEW STORIES
Mr. Doran’s class has been practicing alternative storytelling methods. They are working to create short stories in comic book or graphic novel forms. After the drafting stage, students will use a web-based computer program to digitally create their own comic-style stories. What an amazing way to learn new skills!

SIXTH-GRADE SCIENCE VOLCANO PRESENTATIONS
Students in Mr. Haywood's science classes recently completed volcano research projects and presentations. Students researched the most active volcanoes on the planet. These presentations were EXPLOSIVE! 🌋
GREENUP COUNTY AREA TECHNOLOGY CENTER AMP UP CAREER CAMP
The Greenup County Area Technology Center's AMP UP Career Camp is being held between June 3 and June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. They will have the chance to experience the following programs: business, health sciences, welding, automotive, and electricity.

A bus will pick up students at 8:40 a.m. at Wurtland Middle School. A bus will also pick up students at the close of each camp day at noon to return them to Wurtland Middle School. The camp is open to incoming seventh-grade and eighth-grade students.
